| | | | | 1971 Buick Riviera
| # Doors : | 2 | Ext. Color : | Vintage Red | Int. Color : | Pearl White | Engine : | 455-4 345 hp S1 | Transmission : | Automatic | Description :
An extremely original survivor I purchased from the original owner. It is now undergoing a full cosmetic restoration, retaining as much of the originality as is possible. The Red Riv has had the engine re-painted and the engine bay freshened up. The interior is all original the work done is refinishing the hard plastic pieces which had yellowed the rest just got a good cleaning. A modern remotely controlled stereo has been added inside the ashtray with the original radio hooked into its aux, and power controlled thru the original radio switch, This combination sounds really nice has a much ricer sound than just when the modern stereo's radio is played - it also freaks people out when I turn on the original radio and nothing but 1971 music (at 220 watts) is played from hidden the Mp3 cd. The body has been stripped to bare metal and metal repair work that had done in 1979 has been redone (patches from then where the only rust found), The rear fender lips were done then with new metal being brazed in this warped the rear fenders and there was a fair filler used, This took a lot time to hammer out - but I don't like filler and only use it when absolutely required. It retains all it original panels and has repainted as close as possible to original specs. It is now undergoing chassis cleaning and touch up, so far I have removed most of the undercoating that was put on when new. finding the underside to be in remarkable condition - still had factory markings and overspray below the undercoating, unpainted metal parts are not even rusty, including the gas tank which still has the stamp from metal manufacturer intact, will only be touching a few small bits along a couple of seems on the floor pans and repainting the frame, rear wheels (cause I scratched them up and removed the seem sealer removing the undercoating) and repaint suspension parts,I will also replace rubber lines, rear shocks (if I can find NOS ones like I did on the front) and the exhaust from the mufflers back. Then polish out and put the rest back together. I've dug so to deep and collected so much info to get the riv the way it came from the factory - i actually ended building a Boattail Registry www.boattail-riviera-buick-com come see the red riv and others ---- PS I put most of my 71-73 Buick manuals online in the library and others are now adding to it.
