2017-10-16 - Weddings and classic cars a good fit!
On the weekend I had the pleasure of attending my nephews wedding. They were the winners of a $10,000 wedding package giveaway. There were many companies who offered their services but the one we were most exposed to were "Temple on Queen" which is the Performance & Event Venue in Bridgetown. The photography company hired by James and Tracy was "Spice of Life Photography". The weather held up and I noticed that there were three photographers around every where you turned. I'm thinking, they appear to have all the angles covered. The day after the event I was on-line looking at some of the wedding pictures and the one above just jumped out and slapped me in the face and said... Tell me this classic car (and guys) are the bomb. It's a mid 70's corvette dawned in black all polished up and killer looking. I thought a little "pay it forward" was in order for these businesses who donated their time to make my nephew and brides wedding something extremely memorable. If you are in the Bridgetown and surrounding areas and looking for a venue for an event, give Temple on Queen a call. And if you are looking for photography services I would certainly recommend Spice of Life Photography

2017-07-29 - Cross-Canada vintage car tour rolls into Essex County
When Victor and Kristy Leger roll into St. John's, N.L. on August 30, they'll have crossed the continent not once, but twice in their Canadian-built 1951 Chevrolet pickup truck.
The couple from Allison, N.B. are part of an armada of roughly 100 vintage cars travelling from Victoria to St. John's this summer as part of the Canadian Coasters Car Club.
To get to the starting point, the Legers left home June 5, choosing to get to the west coast through the U.S. in order to avoid doing the same trip twice.
On Friday, the tour rolled into the field behind the Canadian Transportation Museum in Kingsville, where they will spend the night. While some stay in hotels, most opt to tow their accommodations with them.

2017-03-07 - Importing a vehicle from USA - Registrar of Imported Vehicles
The Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RIV) was created to establish and maintain a system of registration, inspection and certification to Canadian standards of vehicles originally manufactured for distribution in the U.S. market that are being permanently imported into Canada.
This web site provides access to information regarding vehicle admissibility, the importation process and the RIV program.
Vehicles subject to the RIV Inspection include but are not limited to:
Trailers, Restricted-use Motorcycles, ATV’s, snowmobiles and low-speed vehicles
“These cars were (and are) all about performance, speed and styling. When I decided to create a painting featuring the Challenger and Cuda, I knew they could not be standing still. I wanted to capture the thrill of competition between the street versions of the famous race cars, while paying tribute to their true origins. What a rush it would have been...
2017-01-01 - Green Goblin Customs Chad Hiltz on a new venture
Chad Hiltz of Green Goblins Customs is at it again. This time he is creating a hand made custom Bugatti which is certainly a challenge to replicate for any custom car builder.
Chad Hiltz has the creative ability to make something amazing out of what most
would call garbage. The many signs displayed over the buildings are what initially
catch the eye of most passer bys. They are pleasantly surprised when the come in
to find many amazing rides. In the buildings you will find whatever custom or
restoration Chad is working on at the time along with his completed beauties.
Chad titles all of his creations with a name that has meaning to him. His cars have displayed in several
magazines with many more to come in the near future.
Be sure to drop by their Rockabilly Weekend on Aug. 19-20th this year and check out his latest creations.
2016-09-02 - Obtaining a Certificate of Registration in NS
For those living in Nova Scotia there is an easy way to obtain a Certificate of registration (title) if the car still has the original vin. Only If it wasn't stolen and hasn't been registered for many years. First step is to take your copy of the VIN to access NS and have them title search it to see if it comes up with any results. If it doesn't then ask for a Verification of Vehicle Information form SPE45. Call police and have them fill it out (free for most part). Take form back to access NS and sign the affidavit then leave with title (cost me $28.10). Thanks to David Morgan who posted this on our Facebook page. I have actually had to do this with a trailer that had the VIN fall off. A little different procedure at Access NS but basically you still need to have a police officer involved in the process.

2016-05-04 - Greg O'Flaherty 1948-2016
With the passing of Greg O’Flaherty on March 24th 2016, the car world lost a real hard-working and dedicated car guy. He was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia and was a founding member of the Cape Breton Antique and Custom Car Club in 1979.
A mechanic by trade, he was always ready with a helping hand when needed.
Over the years, Greg held every position in the club and at the time of his death was the events coordinator. He and his wife, Marie and son and daughter traveled to all shows firstly in their green 37 Chevy, then the 57 Chevy wagon and lastly their 48 Ford ½ ton truck.
At shows in PEI, NB, NS and beyond would find Greg volunteering in any way that he could be of help.
The members of CBACCC are certainly going to miss Greg and we are going to have big shoes to fill in his absence.
Condolences for Greg’s family can be sent to the club web site

2016-05-02 - MaritimeClassicCars.com would like to thank Gary Steeves Insurance
Each year one of the important task we have is provide a comprehensive list of the classic car shows and events that are going on in the Maritimes and Maine over the summer months and into the fall. Initially we took the time to browse the different car club listings in hopes that they had a list we could use for populating our listings. Over the years as we have grown including our Facebook page, many of the event organizers are now contacting us with their event information. However with hundreds of shows that are going on, it is still quite a task to gather them all up to post. Over recent years, Gary Steeves Insurance has done a great job immersing themselves in the classic car world and as part of that, have been doing a lot of the legwork on confirming these shows and have been generous enough to provide us with a copy of this list. We would like to give a big THANK YOU to Trent and the gang for helping us keep you informed!!
2016-03-20 - New web page added to the site
Over the past couple of years, there have been many groups / clubs which are creating their own Facebook pages. We have decided to create a list of these to make it easier for your to locate these Facebook pages. If you know of a classic car related Facebook that does not exist here, email us info@maritimeclassiccars.com with the group name and the Facebook URL and we will post them here. Click here to see the new web page.
2016-03-14 - Facebook page tops 3000 members
Well, usually during the winter months our website kind of goes into hibernation with all the car show completed for the year. However we know that during this time is when a lot of the restoration and new build projects get underway and our Parts page gets a little bit busier and we still get some classified ads posted as well.
One thing that has absolutely starting to go viral is the membership to our Facebook page. Just last week we had our 3000th member join up. It was only last August when we topped the 2000 mark. We are glad that we were able to create the forum to allow members to talk/post information for parts, events and any old classic car discussions. It is fun to browse through on a daily basis to see some posts of people taking cruises in ... January. Yes we had one day of 15 degrees with sun that just taunted those who store their baby in their own garages.
On another note, this year we added a Donate button on the website to help out with the overhead cost of running the website. We have been up and running for eight years and this is the first time that we have placed one on the website. All funds go towards to promoting the website and adding more functionality to the site as well. Congratulations go to Ted Barfett as being our first donor to the website. The first big show of the season coming up soon is the Castrol Radical Speed Sport Car Show in Moncton from April 15-17th. Time to get the juices flowing. Talk too you soon and thanks for any future donations.
2015-11-16 - Who have you bumped into at Costco lately - Ron MacLean!!
Out for a routine shopping run to Costco to pick up a few items. Run into a couple of friends who have five copies of Ron MacLean's new book. In chatting with them, told them that is was one of the items on my Christmas list. They say ... why don't you go over and get him to sign one for you. I look at them ... he's here is said? Yup sure enough he was there. So off to the lineup which was wrapped around a couple of aisles. Looking at the line I tell my wife, never mind. She says get in line, I will go shopping. That could have been dangerous. It took an hour an and a half but I am sure glad I did.
Finally my turn to step up and meet the man. Previous person was a cutie with a Montreal Canadians cap on. As she is leaving he says, "Go Canadians". As I walk up I say ... great, I am a Bruins fan. He replies "I'm sorry". At first I thought he was apologizing to me. Then as I thought about the reply and knowing Ron's wit, he was probably saying sorry that I was a Bruins fan.
As he appears on TV Ron is always a gentleman with a big smile to everyone he meets. We all love him as Coaches Corner hockey guru and his hockey knowledge not just at the NHL level but the minor leagues as well as junior and international players is impecable. Don Cherry is the "Coach", Gordie Howe is Mr. Hockey on the ice but in my opinion Ron MacLean is "Mr. Hockey" of the broadcast medium which we have all come to cherish and enjoy over the many years and years to come. Ron, it was an absolute pleasure to meet you in person.
2015-10-21 - BOOM An explosive one-man stage documentary.
BOOM... WOW. It was a relatively calm Hollows' Eve when we had the treat of taking in Rick Miller's theatrical production of BOOM. As we filed into the theatre we were greeted with the sounds of
Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah in the background. Eventually the lights dimmed and Rick appeared on stage with a warm welcome and a brief description of what was to come.
BOOM is a solo performance by Rick that documents the music, culture and politics from the atomic 'boom' in 1945 through to the 'boom' of Apollo II landing on the moon in 1969.
Rick portrays the voices of over 100 influential musicians, activists and politicians that shaped our world over those 25 iconic and revolutionary years. Recollecting stories or where
I was at specific times, I found myself nodding my head thinking, "Yeah, I remember that". Click here to read the full review.

2014-12-09 - Consumer Alert: Insurance for classic car owners
A man was shocked when an insurance company refused to fix his 1969 Chevelle following a serious incident saying that the restoration cost exceeded the appraised value and wanted to write off the vehicle. The insurance company (following normal protocol for processing claims) used his last valid appraised value for the car. Since that date, the owner had invested approximately $15,000 into the car but did not get a new appraisal to reflect the actual value of the car after the modifications. Moral of the story is to ensure your vehicle has an up to date appraisal to ensure your receive the real value of the car. For some appraisal services, check our website advertisers. Click on the picture to view the news article. He did eventually get the coverage. He was insured by Hagarty which handles Gary Steeves business now.

2014-07-17 - Bringing a car from the USA - Some discussion from our Facebook page
John Sawyer - I hope he has EIN numbers for those cars... The border will seize them and fine him.
Michael Sickboy Boutilier - John Sawyer chances are they do, most serious car collectors know this already. so lets hope this person does & that all the cars do have the EIN numbers too. And he could end up with more then just a fine he could actually end up doing jail time too, it's happened before to many a people out there!!!
John Sawyer - I've spoken to many people whom are completely unaware of the change back in May.
Pass it on. Without an EIN number (basically a TAX ID) from the seller the vehicle will be seized and first offense is $10,000.00 fine plus denied entry back into USA.
Michael Sickboy Boutilier - Damn that's a pretty steep fine to be getting alone with denied entry back into the USA as well ta boot. Dang!!! Thx for the detailed info John Sawyer truly appreciated a whole lot kool kat.
Trent Steeves - He's owned the cars for awhile but still goes through a broker where he's crossing the border all the time, he's just bringing them home after having some work done on them.
2014-07-15 - Moncton Nationals put on another fantastic show!!
We at MaritimeClassicCars.com decided to get up early (5:00 am) on Saturday morning and venture up to the Atlantic Nationals in Moncton. The forecast was for two days of sun and highs of in the 28 degrees range. With word of some paving going on through the Cobequid pass we decided to cruise the old route through Wentworth Valley. What a beautiful view, window down, cruising at 80 kph... yeah almost felt like I was standing still. The clean fresh air free of any other vehicle smell or noise... priceless. I checked my mileage after I got up to Moncton (including the Saturday night cruise or should I say crawl) and we actually pulled in 20 mpg with the 350 engine. I can tell you I didn't get that on the way back for sure.
Once again Bill and the gang put on an awesome weekend and did a great job getting the awards ceremonies moved along in great timing. This was our fourth year up and the first year we actually didn't win anything. But sitting in the shade on Sunday, browsing through some Canadian Hot Rod magazines and a cool drink in hand was definitely what this soul needed. Also got to meet a couple of people on my just had to meet list. Michael and Linda Irvine (incredible classic car artist) and Chad Hiltz and the lovely MJ from the Green Goblin shop. He had the Green Goblin vehicle there which was recently articled in a magazine.
Also got to spend some time with my Uncle and cousins who live in Dieppe. All and all one fantastic weekend in the memory bank. Hope you all had a great time if you were there.

2014-01-14 - New kid on the block. 1977Alvis Striker. Don't mess with it!!
Well we still get classic cars/vehicles registering on our website through out the year. Every so often we see a very unique vehicle register. Well the latest one will make you do a double take. How many of you own a classic... tank. Yes I said tank. Our newest registrant Stephen Philpitt from East Chezzetcook is exactly that person. Here are some of the details of the tank.
A British Classic anti tank missile launcher from the cvrt family of vehicles built in Coventry. Fully tracked and powered by an Jaquar 4.2 l car engine the 8 ton vehicle can reach speeds well in excess of 50 mph. These vehicles are built with a light aluminium hull and small size to allow for air mobile operations . Fitted with turn signals, mirrors and excellent handling this striker is currently road registered in the UK.
As quoted by Lonnie James "If your a gear head this is a must watch. Really need more collectors like this guy. This is what car passion is all about. Locking them up in a private museum is like putting them in jail". Well said Lonnie. Quite a nice collection. Click on the graphic to launch the video.

2013-09-10 - Motor Vehicle Act Updates - Upcoming Election
As you are well aware, the car hobbyist community in Nova Scotia has been advocating for some changes to the Motor Vehicle Act to better handle the issues of antique, modified and owner-built vehicles. The wish of most of the people that I have talked to is to have a more consistent and realistic set of registration guidelines so that owners know what to expect when contemplating building such vehicles or registering one of them.
In recent contact with the Registry of Motor Vehicles, I have been advised that despite the submissions made by various people, there has been no progress in moving these changes forward. Essentially, nothing has changed in the last year.
With the provincial election call over the weekend, I think it is time that we talked to the candidates and made them aware of the concerns we have. So, if you think there is a concern, please mention it to the candidates when they come looking for your vote.
Once the new government is elected, we'll ratchet up our contact with various levels to bring these changes to a successful conclusion.
Conrad LeLièvre
Nova Scotia Director NAACC
